Artists’ Union England
I have worked for Artists’ Union England (AUE) since May 2016 as a web designer and developer. AUE is a nonprofit, political membership organisation that advocates for and protects the rights of artists.
My involvement has included enhancing the web design, setting up the membership system, optimizing the signup form (which increased signups by 25%), and improving the administrative capabilities of the website.
In addition to my work as a web developer and designer, I also provide ongoing technical support and consult on SEO and UX improvements to the website. For example, In April 2022, I suggested making their “Rates of Pay” page more interactive and user-friendly. Prior to optimisation, the page looked like a fairly bland document. The goal of the project was to provide a better user experience for the page that would enhance users’ first impressions of AUE.
The project involved reconfiguring the page to make it easier to navigate and read. In order to accomplish this, I created interactive tables that allow visitors to easily see their suggested rate of pay. I also made the page easier to understand by adding visuals, such as videos and icons to illustrate the information.
As a result of the project, the “Rates of Pay” page saw a 179% increase in new users first visiting the AUE website via the page and an 83% increase in clicks from Google in the 6 months after the new version of the page went live. Other crucial statistics, such as bounce rate, pages per session, and session duration, slightly improved. The Union was very pleased with the improved design and user experience and praised how accessible and stylish it now is.
My overall goal while supporting Artists’ Union England is to be effective and economical in my support. I am very proud of the work that I have done for the Union, which is bringing new members every day and improving artists’ working conditions.
