Myco-Lective Website Myco-Lective is an artist collective that engages with ecology and the environment as part of their collaborative art project.
In December 2021, I was asked by them to make their website. The website I designed is a simple layout based on organic shapes that emphasizes the collective’s mission and ecological values and operates as a platform for the collective to showcase its work. Chisenhale Studios ran the project, which was funded by Arts Council England.
On a Zoom call with the group, we discussed how the content of the website should be displayed using organic shapes, and on the call, one of the artists produced a sketch for the web design. Then I worked with the artists over the next few months to add all the content they wanted to share as a result of their collaboration, and I added the content to the organic shapes that they wanted for the website.
On the project, I worked closely with the organiser Fiona MacDonald, also known as federal practice. I was responsible for all of the front-end coding and design. The website was coded using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and is hosted on the web hosting service Cargo so that artists could log in and edit it themselves in the future. It is fully responsive and can be viewed on any device.
This design is very special and unique, and I am proud to have been a part of this project and I hope to work with the collective again in the future. Thanks to Fiona, the rest of Myco-Lective and Chisenhale Studios for collaborating with me to make the website what it is.
